CMU Tepper MBA Application Essay Tips Deadlines
You know how youââ¬â¢re always reading that ââ¬Å"all MBA programs are differentâ⬠but after youââ¬â¢ve spent weeks and even months reading all of their websites, they can start to seem like they are pretty much the same. Well, not Carnegie Mellon Tepper. Tepper continues to march to the beat of its own drummer. CMU is committed to the rhythm produced by a combination of analytical skills and leadership education. Unlike many other MBA programs that now allow students to enroll in electives from their first semester on campus, Tepper stands firm in its belief that students are better served by having a common and fixed foundation in the fundamentals for the entire first half of that first year. Tepperââ¬â¢s class composition is also significantly different from many of its peer programs. Tepper has just 200 students in its class, while Wharton has 860 and HBS has 942. Moreover, while only 25% of Whartonââ¬â¢s class and 38% of HBSââ¬â¢s comprises former STEM undergraduates, a whopping 48% of Tepper students majored in STEM subjects in college. And the flip side of that: while 42% of Whartonââ¬â¢s MBA class and 21% of HBSââ¬â¢s class studied humanities subjects in their undergraduate degrees, only 9% of Tepperââ¬â¢s class did. Does that mean that Tepper isnââ¬â¢t interested in people from humanities backgrounds? No! It means that any applicant from a humanities background had better demonstrate their facility with complex analyses to prove capable of handling the challenging Tepper curriculum. Tepper has only one required essay and one optional essay in its application: Essay: Imagine that you meet up with a member of the admission committee at an airport while on a layover. You have an opportunity to make a memorable impression. Use this essay to introduce yourself. Include any information that you believe is important for the committee member to know about you both professionally and personally. (Maximum 300-350 words, 12-point font, double-spaced) 350 words is a very short essay, approximately 3 paragraphs in length. Since the Tepper online application form contains a small section to discuss your career goals ââ¬â the industry and function you are targeting and 150 words each about your target role and your plan B if that goal proves elusive ââ¬â you do not need to address goals in this essay. Instead, strong answers to this essay prompt would include examples of situations in which you demonstrated the ambition and talent that Tepper is seeking in its MBA candidates. In addition, since Tepperââ¬â¢s class is so small, applicants who demonstrate their fit with a small, tight-knit community will pique their interest. Optional Essay: â⬠¢ Use this essay to convey important information that you may not have been otherwise able to convey. This may include unexplained resume gaps, context for recommender selection, etc. â⬠¢ If you are a re-applicant, explain how your candidacy has strengthened since your last application. With only one required essay of 350 words, I highly recommend using this space to share more about your background. You can use this essay to demonstrate your potential or experience in a particular field or even to share an example of your analytical andà leadership skills. A Critique Of The Quantitative Research - 1909 Words
Quantitative Research Article Critique The purpose of this paper is to provide a critique of the quantitative research study titled ââ¬Å"The relationships among anxiety, anger, and blood pressure in childrenâ⬠(Howell, Rice, Carmon, Hauber, 2007). Research Problem and Purpose Logically placed, the research problem is clearly and concisely stated within the first paragraph of the article. Citing statistical information from the American Heart Association which noted over 50 million Americans are affected by hypertension, the authors build a persuasive argument for identifying risk factors that could lead to the development of hypertension in children. The research problem relates specifically to the development of cardiovascular disease as a result of prolonged hypertension. This is a well-recognized progression and the authors propose that adult hypertension may be avoided if steps are taken to eliminate or modify risk factors at an early age in order to reduce blood pressure. The purpose of the study was to explore the connection of psychosocial and biological factors and their influence on systolic blood pressure (SBP) and diastolic blood pressure (DBP). More specifically, the research study sought to identify ââ¬Å"the relationship between trait anxiety, trait anger, height, weight, patterns of anger expression, and blood pressure in a group of elementary school childrenâ⬠(Howell et al., 2007, p. 18). Problem Statement Survey free essay sample
Problem Statement Survey Arthur Problem Statement Survey In todayââ¬â¢s society a recession seems to happen at least once every decade. Each time a recession happens the unemployment rate goes up sky high and companies drop like flies and start filling bankruptcy. Small and large companies alike seem to always layoff staff in order to resolve their shortcomings in finances. This maybe a result of the recession or it could be an effort to take advantage of the recession label and clean house within their staff to reduce their annual labor costs. However, staff reductions do not always produce the desired results and on occasion causes a larger loss of profit than the intended results of keeping a company afloat. This research document will help to prove that a company which minimizes or does not have staff reductions and continues to give merit increases during a time of recession can show larger profit overtime and be more successful than a company that does the opposite. Survey Examination The employer salary survey addresses the staff reduction problem by examining the different levels of salaries within a company. It will help to identify possible pay rate level issues, labor costs influenced by staff reductions, benefit issues compared to salaries, and customer base loss compared to staffing issues. The survey is somewhat appropriate for the business problem stated but may be too personal for employers to complete. On the other hand if an employer took the time to complete the survey and was provided the results they could gain invaluable information about their business decisions. They would be able to compare themselves to the rest of the business world and see if they are making the right decision or wrong decision in this area of their business.
